Why does heaven have walls

Large numbers of the world, many living in extreme poverty outside the walled cities or walled minds, are dreaming of an eternity behind the high walls of the New Jerusalem sorry, no Jews this time with its gold, glitter, glory and gleaming God. A walk in the forest would feel heavenly right about now. A real old-earth revelation. And no walls. You humiliate yourself before God. Yes, it will be a city with walls. Yes, we do currently have laws and boundaries to try to preserve some order.

His defense rested on what has become a popular meme in conservative Christian circles. You know the one. Not to be outdone by a meme, Jeffress decided to dial things up to 11 and claim that if a border wall is immoral, then God is immoral because God built a wall around heaven.

The Bible says even Heaven itself is gonna have a wall around it. Not everybody is going to be allowed in. So if walls are immoral, then God is immoral. And Jeffress would know that if he took off his proof-texting Trump goggles and had even a shred of theological imagination. Alas, both those things are in short supply in fundamentalist circles. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12, stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long.

The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.

There are two, well technically three, problems both Jeffress and the ubiquitous Facebook meme seem to be oblivious to. The first problem is that proof-texting only ever makes you look like a fool.

In this case, the facts of the matter are the biblical context of this passage in Revelation. Revelation is unlike most of the Bible. Duh, you knew that right? But again, fear not, friend. Using that Wall as a symbol of fear and rejection of migrants in general, however, is immoral.

After Speaker Pelosi made her comments, Rev. I remind people that God used a wall, he told Nehemiah to build a wall around Jerusalem to keep citizens safe. The Bible says even heaven itself is going to have a wall around it.

So, if walls are immoral, then God is immoral. President Trump seemed to have picked up on this language in his Oval Office address on January 8 when he begin talking about the need for a wall in humanitarian terms. Some have suggested a barrier is immoral.

Then why do wealthy politicians build walls, fences, and gates around their homes? The only thing that is immoral is the politicians to do nothing and continue to allow more innocent people to be so horribly victimized. Trump gets something right here: America is now deep in the throes of a moral and spiritual discussion: What kind of people are we?

Who gets to join us? How do we best live life here together? What is our source of truth? Who gets to decide? For, in the book of Revelation, the New Jerusalem is described as coming down from heaven to the new earth with a wall around it and gates. But there is something counter to the point of the memes about this wall and gates. Walls, yes; gates, yes; but the gates are never shut.

Walls around Old Testament cities represented security of various sorts. The gates being perpetually open in Revelation represents that in eternity no border security will ever be needed.
