This ferry to France crossing operates up to 9 times each week with sailing durations from around 3 hours. Unsurprisingly, our ferry crossing from Cherbourg to Portsmouth had to be cancelled to strong winds.
When we rang up Brittany Ferries they were very helpful in arranging for us to the get ferry from St Malo. Whilst this was much longer, it was as comfortable as it could be. Brittany Ferries' customer service was first rate. Very efficient and organised, punctual and smooth crossings. Very good quality of provisions on board and friendly staff. Huge thanks to the crew and staff. The ship was clean, everyone was helpful, the food was great!
Portsmouth is one of the best connected ports in the United Kingdom, serving nine different destinations across Europe with operators including Condor Ferries and Brittany Ferries. Located on the south coast of England, in the county of Hampshire, Portsmouth is the UK's only island city, situated around km to the south west of London and 30 km to the east of Southampton. The town and port of Cherbourg is located on the Cotentin Peninsular in the Manche department of Normandy in the north west of France.
The town's port is perhaps best known as a cross channel port serving ferries travelling between the United Kingdom and France. One of the most popular attractions in the town is the Museum T. Henry which was founded in following a donation of more than paintings by Henry, commissioner of the Royal Museums. Today, the museum has a collection of paintings by French, Dutch and Italian artists stretching back from the present day to the Middle Ages.
These ferries provide cafes and bars along with different types of accommodation to suit all of your needs. Early booking will ensure your choice of either regular seating or cabin accomodation. Portsmouth is on the south coast of England. But the terminal for international ferries appears on the map as Portsmouth Port, located just north of Charles Dicken's Birthplace Museum.
Cherbourg is in the north of France, on the English Channel by the sea. It is an important fishing and trading port with a remarkable military history. Today it is popular with tourists and has plenty of cultural events to enjoy. The location is also very interesting, being set amongst beautiful green slopes.
